What is 3D Animation sometimes referred to as 3D CGI, 3D animation is a type of animation that uses computer generated images to create animated scenes. Compared to 2D animation, or traditional animation, 3D has much more depth, and it looks much more realistic. An animated scene starts with one picture, which is referred to a frame.

Aspects of Computer animation is defined as the process for creating animated images through computer graphics. It refers to moving images. Today's modern computer animation widely uses 3D animation. A 3D animation is applied on computer programs where the computer generates a 3D representation of a 2D graphics and gives the 2D images in a 3D framework. The procedure of developing a 3D animation generally comprises of 3 stages- first step is to lay down the shape of the object; i/e 3D modeling, second step is to form the surroundings of the object and animation of the objects to be used in the scene are also laid out and finally in the last phase 3D effect is rendered which produces the final image of the object.

For 3D animations, models are created on computer screens and 3D figures are equipped with imagery skeleton whereas, in 2D animations, objects and distinct transparent layers are used with or without a virtual skeleton.

Today, 3D animation courses forms an integral part of complete animation courses or degree courses offered by large number of universities across the country. Many students enroll for 3D animation courses during full animation training program while some particularly opt for such courses as specializations after completing a fundamental course in animation.
