AEP Selects Bentley Substation to Improve Electric Substation

BIM is employed by various utilities that accelerate project design to ensure high performing assets through increased depth of information modeling and through increased breadth of information mobility. Recently Bentley Systems, Exton, Pa. announced that American Electric Power (AEP), Columbus, Ohio, which is considered as one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, has opted to improve its electric substation design practices with Bentley Substation.

AEP will be able to avail various advantages as it will attain a business boost with Bentley Substation's integrated set of capabilities merging electrical design functionality, intuitive 3D modeling, and automatic bills of materials and generating report. As a crucial return on investment, AEP is expecting prompt design cycles and enhanced collaboration across physical and electrical design disciplines.

Bentley Substation has been selected by AEP, particularly to design brownfield and Greenfield projects with high quality in a faster and cost effective manner. As per the industry marketing director, utilities, communications, and government, Bentley Systems, Richard Zambuni, AEP anticipates that Bentley Substation will succeed in joining the increasing number of owner-operator utilities that are increasing productivity with intelligent substation design.

Bentley Substation was selected on the basis of a careful review of commercially available alternatives, the expected improvement the software would make in its own design processes and the productivity benefits demonstrated at other utilities. Besides, AEP will introduce Bentley Substation to more than 100 staff members in its engineering organization and transmission and wants to extend the use of the software to also comprise its key outsourced engineering contractors.
